Collecting your child

Kindergarten children are collected from their kindy teacher on the steps outside the kindergarten classrooms. Children in year 1 to year 6 meet the Whoosh Care team at the bottom of the steps near the kindergarten classrooms on the handball court. Our team is identified by wearing a red sash across their chests and a name badge.

Whoosh Care uses an electronic roll. We mark your child’s attendance or absence on OWNA.

When you collect your child, you will sign into OWNA using your unique pin code. The pin code can be modified via the OWNA app on your personal device

Please only use your personal pin code to sign your child out to ensure that we maintain accurate records.

Only authorised persons are permitted to collect your child. We require written permission for another parent or friend to collect your child. Please provide the authorised person’s phone number and email so that we can include them on OWNA.

Please let our team know if your child is not going to attend Whoosh Care on an enrolled day so that our team can verify their whereabouts promptly. Failure to do so will incur a $15.00 fee.

We close at 6pm each afternoon. Families are required to collect their children prior to 6pm. Our team have travel arrangements, family commitments and other study and work commitments that are scheduled after their shift with Whoosh Care. It is important that families show support to our team by being on time. Failure to collect your child on time will incur a late fee of $20 per 15-minute interval.

Whoosh Care behaviour management agreement

Children enrolled at Whoosh Care agree to follow the Whoosh Care Code of Behaviour. The code is in place to ensure that all children can enjoy their time at Whoosh Care and mirrors the school rules.

Parents/guardians are expected to show support to and work in partnership with the Whoosh Care educators regarding their child/ren’s behaviour.

If a child breaches our code they are firstly reminded of the rules, if the behaviour continues your child will be asked to sit down and reflect on their behaviour. For continual breaches or a serious breach of the code parents will be informed via our behaviour record form. Repeated breaches may result in Whoosh Care withdrawing your child’s enrolment.

Any violence toward a team member or other child will result in a 2 enrolled day suspension from care.

Unacceptable behaviour from a parent/guardian may result in Whoosh Care withdrawing your child’s enrolment.

Philosophy

Program information

The Whoosh philosophy guides our practices and interactions at Whoosh. We welcome your input in continuing to shape our philosophy as we grow and learn with you.

At Whoosh we believe the child’s best interests should be at the core of everything we do.

We believe that when we collaborate with the children to design and create experiences, we can ensure that they look forward to their time with us.

As Educators, we strive to deliver industry best-practice in our programming, internal processes and interactions with children and families. We are committed to continuous improvement via professional development, teamwork and reflection.

We believe in creating a welcoming environment where all children and families are treated with respect and where they feel supported. We take pride in the development of partnerships based on trusting, positive and open communication. We value the development of strong links between children, families, educators, the school and the local community.

Whoosh Care provides a play and leisure program with planned activities including craft, cooking, group games, science experiments and we provide spontaneous activities in response to the children’s ideas and requests.

We encourage all children and families to collaborate with the educators to plan programs.

We welcome parents and guardians to share any feedback, ideas and/or skills such as music, art and craft, cooking and sport with the team and children at Whoosh Care.

We collaborate with the children to plan and document their achievements and share their successes with you. Our team shares information with families via the OWNA app.

Whoosh Care Town Hall is an indoor service we provide for active play every afternoon and regular outings to Pioneer Park for outdoor play.

We will send an email update to the account holder each school term and when there is Whoosh Care news to share.

If you change your email or do not receive our updates, please let us know. You can also follow Whoosh Care on Face Book.

Use of personal devices

Whoosh Care is not responsible for your child’s personal device at any time. As such, children are not permitted to use personal devices during after school care. We appreciate your understanding on this matter. Children with devices in their bags are asked to leave the device in their bag and place their bag in the safe zone.

Holiday and birthday celebrations

At Whoosh Care we celebrate several calendar holidays with the children. Holiday celebrations may be reflected in our weekly programming. If there are any issues or concerns, please speak to a friendly team member.

General information

Afternoon tea is served from 3pm to 5pm. After this time fruit is available for the children. Children are not required to eat; children serve themselves and we assist them in making decisions about how much they should eat. Children are required to sit down at the table to eat their afternoon tea. Our menu is reviewed each term with feedback from families and children so please feel welcome to comment on our menu and make snack suggestions for us to include on the menu. The menu will be emailed each term to families.

Children are required to wear sun protection (when on excursions to Pioneer Park) when the UV rating is 3 or above. Our team will discuss sun protection with the children through the program.

Copies of the Education and Care Regulations and Whoosh Care policies are available on the OWNA app and on our website in the resource section; the password is WhooshCare2020.
